Iacten’s Principal, Dr. Wolfgang Decker, has been active in Thin Films and Surface Technology for over a quarter century.

After graduating from the Technical University of Braunschweig (Germany) with a degree in aeronautical engineering he accepted an opportunity for research fellow at the newly founded Institute for Surface Technology (IOPW, now IOT) at the TU Braunschweig under Prof. Dr. Georg Wahl.

Dr. Decker’s research took him to the United States in 1995, and after defending his Ph.D. thesis on CVD Processes at Atmospheric Pressures in 1997 he has been working on a wide array of aspects in Thin Films and Surface Technology. Stations of his career included Sigma Technologies, AZ, Toray Plastics (America), R.I. and Vast Films, PA.

11 U.S. and International Patents as well as numerous publications and presentations are the result of his work. Industry awards include the John Matteucchi Award from AIMCAL in 2004 as well as the AIMCALTechnology of the Year Award in 2008. Dr. Decker held the position of Director on the Board of the Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) from 2002 through 2009 and was the Program Chair for the SVC Technical Conference from 2010 through 2014. He still serves on the Board of Directors for the SVC Foundation, helping to further the next generation of Scientists and Technologists in Vacuum Coating and Surface Technology.

Dr. Decker has been recognized in the industry for his problem solving skills, his creative ideas in product and process development as well as his hands on approaches.
